The Miracle Morning Discovery

A few months ago I listened to a @deliciouslyella podcast about the Miracle Morning (idea/book by Hal Elrod @themiraclemorning). My first thought: no way, not me. [Disclosure: You can ask anyone in my family, I am NOT a morning person.] But I was craving a bit more structure for my mornings and decided to just TRY it one day. GAME. CHANGER. PEOPLE.

After several months of practicing The Miracle Morning, I have noticed that I'm more grounded, clear-headed, motivated and purposeful with my time. It is worth noting that we can and will all practice TMM differently, so I’ll just share how I’ve adapted the Miracle Morning for my own life and circumstances at the moment. Feel free to adapt these six steps to your own interests!

Why It’s Perfect for Musicians

TMM is perfect for many in our industry because we often DO have some time in the mornings, vs. corporate culture jobs that start earlier. If you have young children, I can imagine that prioritizing TMM will involve close cooperation of your partner and/or simply waking up earlier. With school-age children, I could imagine that after school drop off may be a wonderful opportunity to prioritize your Miracle Morning.

The Six MM Elements

1️⃣Meditation - I do a 10-15 minute guided meditation. I use the @melissawoodhealth app, but you can also try ones from @tarabrach or YouTube.
2️⃣Movement - just do something with your body! If you don't know where to start, search "5 minute home workout" on YouTube. I use @melissawoodhealth (I do a short one in the mornings like 10 minute arms)
3️⃣Affirmations - Write a list of statements on index cards beginning with "may I" about how you want to spend your time and show up in the world. Read these to yourself.
4️⃣Instrument - Spend 10 minutes playing your instrument for FUN. Sight-read or play old rep. Anything goes.
5️⃣Learning - Spend 10 minutes learning something new. I am on a multi-year long journey of learning German so that's what I devote this time to. But sometimes I also study history (right now World War I) on the Khan Academy app.
6️⃣Gratitude - Make a list of three things you're grateful for and three things you'd like to do that day, including a highlight activity.

Conclusion

The idea with this set of activities is to PRIME your brain, body and soul for the day. Having practiced this for several months before sharing with you all, I can really attest that it does so.

Final note - don’t turn on your phone before you’ve completed TMM. Just trust me on this, you’ll feel so much better!

Wishing you all well,
Samantha
